New England Routes

We will be pulling a 37'fifth wheel this fall through NE. Our plans are to travel I-81 and work our way to Foxsboro, MA - Williamstown, VT - Twin Mountain, NH - Old Orchard Beach, ME - Belfast, ME and return to Tennessee. Suggestions on routes and other info will be appreciated.
  • Check out Normandyfarms.com in Foxboro, Mass. Its a really nice campground. Couple of miles off the highway {Route 495}
  • When going to Bangor ME, we always take I-81 north to I-84 east (in the Scranton PA area).

    We follow I-84 into New England and avoid the NYC area.
  • I 84 out of Scranton has a long down hill run. We have taken out 5th wheel from I 81 to Route 209 thru the Delaware Water Gap National Rec. Area. No commercial trucks allowed other than service truck. 20 miles of scenery. Just camp through this week with a car and found the section between 81 and the park has a lot of pot holes but the park road is in very good shape. Speed is 35 and 45 but no hills just curves.

    I would recommend taking the bypass from I 84 to I 91 around Harrisburg in Conn. Taking our 5th wheel before the bypass was build was stressful. Lots of traffic anytime of day. I 84 will connect with Mass Pike and that with both the inner and outer builtway around Boston. DO NOT go thru Boston with your 5th wheel.

    No real way to avoid toll roads in New England, btw.
  • I believe that jcsb meant Hartford Ct not Harrisburg, and the by pass off of
    I-84 to avoid downtown Hartford would be I-691.
    And yes I-81 to I 84 to new england is the best way if you want to travel interstates.
  • I would go this way:

    Foxsboro to Williamstown (495-93-89)
    Williamstown to Twin Mountain (2-93-302)
    Twin Mountain to OOB (302-95)
    OOB to Belfast (95-295-3)
    Belfast back (3-295-95-495 to Mass Pike etc)
