Thanks for the up date.

Made the drive today. Most of the 45 miles was a little rough, but not bad if adhering to 55mph speed limit. No pot holes or big road defects. The lanes seemed standard width. The first 15 miles had a pretty wide shoulder as did the last 10. According to my mapping program it saved over 70 miles and over an hour of travel time. Nothing rattled loose that I can find.

4 years ago it bounced the door off of my closet. Surface was good, just bumpy. It might have changed since then.

Thanks for the responses. No shoulder is not an issue. Just wanted to get from Roswell to Fort Sumner without going all the way on US-285 to US-60.

No shoulders but plenty of ranch roads to pull off onto, although you will need to back in since they are not turn-a-round spots. Surface is fine as of last spring.

Did that one about 3 years ago and it was just fine. We went from Santa Fe to Roswell, then went via artesia back west, also ok.
