Most of 10 is in pretty decent shape. Some of it really good. Between Lafayette and Breaux Bridge it’s ****. You can go 190 between Lafayette and Baton Rouge but the road is not too good in several places, but it does bypass the I10 bridge that usually has at least one wreck on it after 3:00. Most of the backup is between hwy. 415 headed east until you make it past the 10-12 split. It sucks but there just aren’t many options.
If you’re feeling like sight seeing and have time you can go south on hwy 1 to Plaquemine and take the ferry across to the east bank; it’s kind of fun.
Oops, I got mixed up. Gave suggestions for Houston to New Orleans. One route I like is crossing the river on 310 at LaPlace and paralleling 10 using 3125(?) to intersect with 10 at Port Allen.
You can still possibly avoid delays by getting through BR before 3. The ferry is still an option you’d just have to approach it from River Road in BR to Plaquemine. I’m sure your god could handle it. The main thing is the bridge. AM 1150 gives pretty good traffic reports.
