Heading west, I have started taking US190 from the west bank of the Mississippi River right after Baton Rouge & then LA12 at Ragley on into Texas to avoid the construction on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge and the rough interstate at Sulphur just west of Lake Charles. You can jump over to US190 using LA415 right after Port Allen. LA12 connects to TX12 at the state line and rejoins I10 in Vidor, TX avoiding some construction on I10 in Orange, TX. You will not always be traveling at interstate speeds, but you will avoid rough roads, construction, stress and perhaps unanticipated delays. If you choose to go US90 from New Orleans to Lafayette, you can just continue on I49 on north and connect with US190 in Opelousas, LA.
