New Orleans

Planning a trip from Long Island, NY to New Orleans in late October, Begining of November. Looks like Interstate 81 is the best way, but heard it is very Mountainous and could get snow that time of year.

Has anyone traveled this route before at that time of year, if so can you offer any tips or advice.
  • Pontchartrain Landing looks awesome. if we were not staying two blocks from where the wedding venue is I would stay there. Thanks for the heads up.
  • Also kenbert. if you are interested we stay in Biloxi ms. across from boomtown casino for 27 dollars a night. It is a no frills but with all the hookups if you like to play at some casinos. it is across the street from IP casino and boomtown as well as about a mile from hard rock and Beau Rivage. it is about a 45 minute ride from New Orleans.

I am also going there for a Wedding in October. What day is it.
  • At the risk of getting off a "route" topic and onto a "campground" topic, I do recommend French Quarter RV Park. It is more expensive than Pontchartrain Landing. I have not stayed at Pontchartrain Landing, but French Quarter RV Park is much closer (meaning within) downtown New Orleans. Security is very good and it is well-maintained. All sites are back-in. I recommend arriving before the weekend to make getting into your site easier with less crowded conditions. French Quarter RV is about 2 blocks from the Quarter. We walked over during the day and took an Uber back in the evening with no problem.

We normally stay at French Quarter, but stayed at Pontchartrain Landing a couple of years ago to check it out . Depending on the weather, the interior dirt roads were either very muddy or very dusty. Regardless, they were full of potholes. To us, the shuttle was useless as the last run back to the CG was early evening so if you took the shuttle into town, and wanted to stay awhile to check out the music, food, bars, you had to take a taxi/uber back. We just used the toad instead.
