It might help if you gave slightly more info on the routes in question, such as an outline of what roads the route covers.
I personally would probably go I-78 to I-81. Traffic usually is not unreasonable along I-81, although it is a major truck route. Traffic in the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area is often pretty heavy and slow-moving, but it's hard to avoid that when it's your destination.
If perchance one of the suggestions is taking I-95 through/around Baltimore and DC, I would avoid that route.
