New York travel question

I am taking the family to Niagara Falls and will be traveling from the Erie direction (90 to 190) to Lewiston KOA. Are there any roadway restrictions that I need to be aware of? I have an F250 towing a 28' Jayco so I would assume length is not a factor. I know from a previous trip to Pellham NY that some of the roadways have low overpasses and I would like to avoid any issue like getting stuck under one...

Thanks
Jim
  • Thanks all, No issues as you have said and had a great time. Thanks again for all your replies.

  • The only "low bridge" is under the North Grand Island bridge.
    Google map

If you want to take the Niagara Senic Parkway there is a short way around. Just take the exit to the parkway but keep left and turn left at the light. Go under the I-290 and then turn left at the second entrance the gets you on tge parkway after the GI bridge towards NF..

If you would like more information I have a group on RVillage.com (free) "Niagara Falls things to do or done"

    Or just ask.

Be aware that on I90, between the PA state line and Buffalo, you'll go through a stretch of about 10 miles of roadway that is on Native American land. There is an ongoing dispute between the State of NY and the tribal government about ownership and tolls. The reason this matters to you is that as a result, the road is in HORRIBLE shape for those few miles. You'll need to slow down to 40 or 45 MPH to keep from loosing your teeth.

X2 I live in the area and can confirm that SpeakEasy has described the road on the Indian Reservation perfectly.

  • Nothing to worry about - you're talking about mostly interstates. And - don't worry about the Niagara Scenic Parkway - it is not treated as a regular NY parkway - and *can* be driven on with your trailer.

    Have fun!
  • Anything termed a "parkway" will be restricted. Pick up a Trucker's Road Atlas or get a similar app for your phone. That will help you choose the right routes.
