NJ residents!!!! How do you do it?

I'm sure the NJ pump operators are highly trained and qualified to do the job.
Remember, it's for the safety of the motoring public. Didn't you feel safer when driving in New Jersey? ;)

The person is safe enough to drive the vehicle at high speeds and interact with thousands of other people doing the same thing but they aren't competent enough to fuel the vehicle. Does someone fuel their hot lawn equipment or ATV or boats.

Yeah, Oregon gas stations are the same way.. Gotta let them pump it for ya... I lived there for some time as a teenager, and a lot of my buddies got easy jobs pumping gas! Back then, min wage was around $3.35/hr.. I washed dishes.. Ha, ha!

Anyway, not sure what the reason was, but it hasn't changed in the 32 years that I've lived in WA state..

Thanks guys. I was doing some reading and it seems the law was to increase jobs in the state and to make it safer for the car driving public?! Can’t see how it’s safer? So do the guys pumping gas go to special schooling to pump gas?

And I thought I read that Oregon got rid of that law on pumping gas. So that leaves NJ left as the sole state.

Come on NJ. Move into the 21st century! If I can travel through 5 states towing 9k lbs at 65-70mph then I think I am well qualified to pump 30 gallons of gas!

You can pump your own diesel in NJ, but not gas. Go figure.

Returning from Maine to VA last month, I made sure to fill up in CT ensuring enough fuel to make it through NJ without stopping for fuel PRECISELY for this reason.

For the most part you still cannot pump your own in Oregon. Only certain rural counties with a low population can you pump your own.

Pump my own diesel in NJ all the time, legally. They sometimes get annoyed at me when I pump my own gas. But there is no reason I should have to wait for several minutes for service when the tank could have already been filled. But think of it the other way. Drivers who have always been in NJ go to another state and have no idea how to pump fuel into their vehicles! Yikes.

Yeah, as long as you are on the eastern side of the state and it is only select counties, but if you go down I-5, you will have to let them pump it for you..

You can legally pump your own diesel in Oregon too. Many people don't know that though.
