Nogales AZ overnight nearest the border crossing?

Hey Everyone,

Can you all recommend a good spot to overnight close to the Mariposa crossing? We hope to make Nogales tomorrow afternoon and prefer staying closer to the border that De Anza or Mountain View. As best I can tell both of those are a good 45-60 minutes from the crossing.

Dry camping would be fine.

Thanks

Steve
  • As long as you feel secure, I'll be it doesn't matter where you try to sleep.
You are probably excited enough about tomorrow, sleep will be iffy!
  • Thanks for the suggestions.

Walmart is sounding like a good bet but the only one I can find is on I-19 South of the Hwy 189 cutoff. Is there one closer?

    Thanks again.

    Steve

Edit: I looked closer and see that the WalMart is only about 15 minutes from the crossing. I think that will be fine.
  • No one knows that area better than Rocmoc ! That truck stop is a hell whole. Not only noisy but lots of illegal activity. Not safe!!

  • We overnight at the Pilot station 12km from the border on hwy 19. Just a few minutes from Mariposa in the am.

Desert Diamond Casino is even further north than De Anza or Mountain View. Not sure about any others further south. There is a truck stop just north of Nogales, AZ right on I-19. Might be an option for you?

That may be a good option. Can you give me a bit more detail on the location?

    Thanks

The truck stop is very noisy and there is about 6 trains that pass on the East side of the truck stop nightly. De Anza & Mountain View are more like 30 minutes from Nogales. If you want to get as close as you can, just stay at the Walmart in Nogales. Many RVs stay in the parking lot and there are plenty of Police patrols thu the night. As safe as anywhere.

But if you do want to stay at the truck stop the exit is Ruby Road. You will be headed Southbound and the truck stop is on the East side of the exit. Lanes are very confusing the way they are marked. There are signs. The sign North Frontage Road will take you behind where the trucks park for the night. You can still reach fuel from this route also.

  • Desert Diamond Casino, between Nogales & Tucson. 24 hr security in the parking lot.
