Nogales Border Crossing

Good or bad idea to go over "good friday" late afternoon, as far as being busy? Thanks in advance, Tom.

  • Ended up leaving Tuesday. Light traffic all the way to first toll after Hemosio (sp). Staying in the fast lane avoided a lot of bad road from Sinaloa crossing into Sonora. Some really bad deep pot holes for miles and miles. Road pretty good the second day to the border. No wait, first to the bottom of the hill. Vendors insisted we go to bus lane and stopped the 2 lanes of traffic to the right.

A bit of a wait while the vegetable man went through the rv's.Pork potatoes, eggs uncooked, fruit were high on the list and taken.

All and all an easy run with very little to no waiting.

At K21 where you hand in your car sticker to the extreem right, move the barrier and don't go along the fence if your too long to make the turn out of there. Just put the barrier back after you drive up to the shack. The officials are understanding the problem.
  • Anyone traveling during Semana Santa (holy week) in Mexico is asking for trouble, there are more drunks and crazy drivers, best thing to do is to hunker down and wait until every one goes back to work and they get over the borrachera (drunkenness) and the cruda (hang over).

Stay put and wait until the mayhem passes.

  • I have never tried that. I usually stay off the highways from the Wednesday to the Monday. There will be lots of paisanos going south and lots of shoppers going North. I am heading back south in my truck and I will cross on Monday.
