Nogales Crossing Oct. 18

We crossed at Nogales yesterday with zero problems. At the first checkpoint( just after the first toll booth) there were only 2 aduaneros on duty. One was playing with his smart phone( probably checking his face book page!)the other was daydreaming. We slowed down and breezed through without either of them moving! BTW: They have removed those killer metal topes that ere installed at an angle. No rocknrolling. @ 21 a nice young man asked if he could inspect. When he saw Sally Mae he asked if she was dangerous. I was tempted to say yes. He opened 2 cupboards and chatted about Kino. Never opened the fridge and we were on our way.

ROAD UPDATE:

Lots of construction right @ 21. WE did not have to enter the parking area as we have the equivalent of FM3's. BUT I did not se any way for an RV to enter the lot. They are repaving the entire road from the first lot entrance right through the inspection area. The right hand lanes were ripped up leaving only that little open area at the south end of the lot. Maybe a small C could make the turn but if you have a toad it is impossible. However there was a lot of equipment working and I would expect that later next week they will be finished. Lots of construction for Southbound travelers. Much of the south lanes are already new and really nice. Lots of switching to the north bound side with only one lane each way. But no big deal. The first part of the road up to about Imuris was rough but I think that is because they will soon be repaving. I did notice that there was lots of sophisticated equipment. They were bringing in truck loads of nice grey gravel. All crushed uniformly. Must be a different construction company who know how to build a road. Everything looked first class. The tolls are up. We paid almost 200 pesos at the first toll booth( 2 axle truck and 3 axle MH. At the Hermosillo toll booth there is more construction but we turn off to the mine road so I cannot comment on the mess. Apparently Hermosillo is again under construction. More bridges. Fuel is very expensive. Diesel was 12.27. OUCH! I didn't check Magna but think it is about the same as diesel. Be prepared for high prices on food. Temp was was 93f yesterday!!!

  • That puts gas at about USA prices, maybe even a little higher. I am glad I am not trying to live in Mexico on Mexican wages!
  • Magna was 11.91 per ltr. in HMO today. Premium is 12.47. Still no signs with UBA Diesel. La La Tetra Pak milk by the case is 13.23 per ltr. Up about 75 centavos. Yoghurt is still very inexpensive. Veggies seemed a little higher. I didn't check any booze prices. 5 gallons of purified water ( the good brands) runs about 21 pesos. You can get some stuff that is packaged outdoors for less than 10 pesos! 6000 pesos at the ATM cost me $469.03 You can do the math but that is not a bad rate ( USD)

  • Looks like Diesel isn't much cheaper there @ $3.60 a US gallon than here in Beatty NV @ $3.799.
  • Here in Mission B.C. near Vancouver, we are having the lowest gas prices in several years. $1.20/litre - I believe that's $4.56 per US gallon. Cry me a river ! RYV
