Nogales Mariposa Crossing!

Just a short trip across the border without the Motorhome. For RVs: Going South is fine, stay in the Right Lane (Truck Lane). Problem is returning North, INSANE! RVs are required to be in the RIGHT Bus Lane. We live North of Nogales and I will NEVER bring the Motorhome back north thu Nogales. This is IMHO. Too many issues with the crossing for me to waste my time. Problems are on the USA side except getting into the Bus Lane. I will travel to Lukeville or Santa Teresa. Good luck!

  • Moisheh - we crossed in early spring last year coming north after recovering our trailer, then again this spring returning home again. Both times we didn't take the bus lane and we just had to pull into the open area after the booths and a very friendly agent came out of the building there and we had a nice discussion about Mexico and retirement before being told we were free to go. There is lots of parking area there. RYV
  • Hi I came trough north from Hermosillo this wensday and it was just fine, got to the right lane or bus lane vendors will stop traffic for you, just a chain on the gate no truck, waited about 10 minutes for an agent, they were very nice just a agriculture inspector and immigration every thing went very nice, no x-ray arch...... not a problem.....I will consider Lukeville is easier but Nogales is Ok too........
  • RYV: When was the last time you crossed @ Nogales? It is all new and there is no real parking lot.

  • We crossed in May with our class A in the afternoon. As Moisheh said the PU was there because there was no agent. It's a manpower thing. Soon as we stopped an Agent waved at us from another booth and in just a few minutes moved the PU and cleared us. Heck, even the Ag. inspector lady was pleasant although we disagreed on guacamole recipes. 12 minutes from the time we stopped till on our way
  • I went though last Dec with a caravan. They wanted some of us to go through the far right hand RV lane and others not to. It was inconsistent & confusing.
  • We've never used the bus lane. We have, for many years, just carried on with the cars and usually we have to pull through to the parking lot and wait for an agent. They have always been friendly and accommodating. RYV
  • That PU is always there. You can thank the geniuses @ Homeland security for the mess. They need to hire some traffic engineers ! Compare that to the Benjamin Hill check point. The Mexicans could teach them about traffic flow!

  • Hi Moisheh,
Maybe it was the time of the year! While the lights over the Bus/RV lane said it was Open, Customs had a Pickup parked across the lane so you could not enter. Watched a Bus wait over 20 minutes before anyone came out to inspect. Pickup was still blocking the lane after we passed thu. After you get pass the gate there was a large Xray machine the Bus/RV has to go thu. Backing up before the gate, there is now only ONE lane coming in from the toll road to the lanes for the crossing. Buses take the bypass road thu/around the West side of Nogales avoiding the Toll road and the need to cross lanes. IMHO not an improvement over what was there before all the big bucks were spent. Only good thing was the smaller number of vehicles attempting to cross.

May be just me not liking the changes.

  • Rocmoc: What was the problem? We have been using that bus lane all of this season. When you cross thru the gates and are on US soil the vendors will usually stop the traffic so you can get to the right. No big deal. Sometimes if there is a bus the agents will move him ahead. Mornings are bad but most RV'rs cross later in the day. The longest wait we had was 40 minutes.
