The drive up I-80 up to Truckee is kind of windy and uphill but it's much better than taking 50. Once past Donnor Lake as it heads downhill, there are a number of fast sweeping bends that I'm going to have to be very careful with. It's that way all the way to Verdi.
I figure once I get past Reno, it's much easier sailing.

The google time estimates are for cars going the posted speed limit -- in most of Nevada, that speed limit is 70-80. I don't go anywhere near that fast when I'm towing. Definitely stay on I-80 through the Sierras, it's a really good freeway. Just take it easy on the downhill side and you'll do fine. Once you get past Sparks, the traffic clears out and it's smooth driving.
