North from Reno to BC border area?

Visiting some friends near Reno area(Wellington, Nv.)then heading North to Ione, Wa.(NE corner of Wa.)any suggestions as it looks like mostly desert,and I live in the desert and trying to cool off! Any input on Hells Cny on the east side.Anything,want to go as direct as possible. Driving a TC so pretty open to any route.

    US95 is another option to the Spokane/CDA area. It passes through Lewiston, the main access point for Hells Canyon. But the view points for the Canyon (from above) are all on Forest Service roads (some paved), mostly on the Oregon side.

    There have been threads about US95. It has some grades as it climbs out of the Salmon and Snake River crossings.

    From Reno just stay on 395. Some of the route will be hot some in the mountains. Nice state park right on the border at Goose Lake. Good place for a night or two.
