Wow, thanks for all of the great info. I knew it was just a matter of asking here to get the knowledge needed. Last year we left on Labor day and went to Vegas and then up 95. The Yosemite fires kept us out of the Tahoe area and we want to go that way this year especially since we will be leaving earlier and it will be much warmer.
The gas prices of California are nothing we look forward to but they will come as no surprise. Between Gas Buddy, the 55 gallon tank and 5% back on my Chase freedom card we should be fine. The friends we will be visiting in Nevada City have 6 gorgeous acres with Deer Creek running right down the middle. Our free full hook up site along with the gold down in the creek await our arrival.
