Hi all!
This is my very first post to the forum. I'm located in Reno, NV. In June the wife, pup, and I are going to Wright's Beach campground north of San Francisco. Been there many times by car, and have always taken the "safe" route: I80 West to 101 North. This year we're taking our 1996 F250 and our 19' 1976 travel trailer, and we're thinking about taking the scenic route. We're stopping west of Davis on the first night of the trip, and we were thinking of taking the route below the rest of the way to the beach:
Google map of route.
It's 128 to 116.
Has anyone driven this route before? I've towed the trailer over I80 a handful of times, and have no problem slowing down and taking my time. But this route definitely looks to be the twistiest-windiest that I'll have ever driven. Any words of advice (of any nature) are greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
James
Greetings from Fairfield (about 20 miles away from Lake Solano). I ride 128 frequently on a motorcycle (yes, not EXACTLY the same...) - some of the best riding in Northern CA, IMHO. 128 is pretty doable, but does get tight at times. There are only a few grades that come to mind that take some care, but it's pretty laid back. I'd go early to avoid Lake Berryessa traffic (tons of stoned idiots/sport bikes/kids on the way to/from the lake) and use the turnouts (which are not that plentiful). I can't really speak to the 116 piece, sorry
Have a great trip!
