OBX to Cherry Hill RV Park in Maryland

Greetings, we are coming to an end of our 31 day road trip to rediscover America (day 25 today). To can see our adventure on Instagram #kenchinstablog

We will be leaving Kitty Hawk RV park in NC and heading to DC tomorrow.

Any recommendations on the best way to get around the tunnels of Virginia on our way north? Is route 32 a bridge I could take?

  • I was concerned about the propane. Found out I could take 664 and show the dot guy that my bottlers were off. All good! I've been avoiding those tunnels for years when heading south.
  • As long as you have your propane off and your RV is not taller than 13'6" you will be fine. We had a 40 ft 5th wheel that we towed thru the tunnels all the time. You cannot get out of the Tidewater area unless you cross a bridge or go thru a tunnel (sometimes both). There do seem to be lots of people with phobias concerning tunnels. They creep through and ride so close to the center line making huge traffic back ups and unsafe driving conditions. Like many places, rush hour is bad.
  • Whats the issue with the tunnels?

I hit one when leaving OBX several years ago and all we had to do was pull over and show our propane was turned off. Not to much of a hassle or is it a phobia thing? I know my wife doesn't care for the tunnels.
