I suspect it will be contrary to your thinking, but what about RV'ng up to ...somewhere before Dawson Creek......and then moteling it from there? Just winterize the RV and go?
I'd guess that driving in March (perhaps not right in Fairbanks but elsewhere) you'll see enough "warm" weather to get slush buildup on your rig which will freeze....could be a problem for your insulation.
As others have suggested, take chains for the truck and trailer; karma probably indicates that if you have them, you won't need them, but in the possible-in-March heavy snow then mixed rain, they could come in handy.
Work of the top 1/2 of your fuel tank.
Your suggestions are good ones but not necessarily doable.
First the Pink Foamular is water and moisture resistant (spray it with a hose and see) however I will be covering the bottom of the trailer with coroplast so the insulation will not be open to the elements in any case.
While Using the TOP half of the fuel tank is generally good advice it isnt necessarily feasible on the Alaska Hwy in the winter. The open stations are in some cases just too far away. Of course I will get fuel whenever I can.
I have for more than a year carried two 20L (five Gallon) NATO style Jerry cans which are mounted on the tongue of my trailer. I keep them empty most of the time unless I am in the Baja or on my way to somewhere like Alaska. Last year on the way to Alaska I used them to get me by the really expensive fuel to cheaper fuel on down the road.
I have considered staying in motels along the way and I will see what happens. The limiting issue is my waste tanks, not only freezing but not being able to be dumped.
Thanks for all the suggestions they are appreciated.
