There is a lot of fraud in Mexico with credit cards, so some establishments do not accept them, debit cards are being used more and more by using the little machine that requests your PIN number be entered, this method now makes you responsible for the amount entered and not the bank card or the establishment, with the credit cards the bank is liable and/or the establishment for any discrepancy up to $50.00 US dollars, there is a lot of theft what they ask is for your wallet and cell phone, and checks are not really used in Mexico no one will accept one, not even the government offices, cash or debit card and very few will take a credit card.
