Online Maps with Mileage Radius?

I am trying to find online maps that allow one to define a mileage radius from a specific point. My objective is to be able to locate fueling locations based on the range of my rig.

I found a web-based map called GPS Visualizer that allows me to draw mileage radius rings in Google Maps. But I cannot search for truck stops from that map.

Any ideas?
  • Don't want to hijack this post, but Gas Buddy in my area is less than useless.
A number or gas chains and or stores have membership, incentive or discount programs. Invariably the price posted on Gas Buddy is the discount or membership price.
When you pull in of the street gas is 5 to 15 cents more expensive than posted price.
  • I have the DeLorme Street guide that has just what you're looking for. You enter your starting point and ending point, then there is a box in the bottom left that allows you to enter how long you want to drive (either hours or miles), your fuel tank capacity, starting tank lever, the level you want a warning and vehicle's MPG. It will put icons on the route for gas stops and end of day points.

If you use this well before your trip you can search the areas around the gas icons for stations and places for night stops.
  • As you are a gasser (unless I miss that guess) you need to work a 2 step process. I use SA (I think S&T can do this too) and after you load all the pertinent information (tank size, MPG and starting fuel load), it will tell you when to start looking for fuel. Fire up you internet connection or smart phone, get on Gas Buddyand send it to that location. Gas Buddy will show all the stations local to that and the prices of regular, mid, prem an diesel. The only two problems then (well three, you still have to get there) are can can't go far off your track to save the cost of fuel because it just doesn't pay to do so, and can you get the rig in there. This last question can be answered with the combination of Google Earth and Street View if you are concerned.

Two cautions here. Gas Buddy is powered by volunteers and so accuracy can be an issue.

Be aware (if you are not already) that many truck fuel places have no gasoline on the truck side.

  • I believe you can (or at least used to...) be able to do that on the GS trip planning software... haven't tried it in the past year or so... ST

    Click for fuel stops

That is a perfect tool! Thank you!

  • Captbru,

I have done that before but it doesn't give you a running distance from the start point. I want to be able to pre-plan my fuel stops and then load the addresses into my gps.
  • Go to Google Maps and in the search put in the name of the town your in. After the map is up on Google go back up in search and type truck stops, it will bring up truck stops. Then just take your curser and move it slowly along the route your going and more will pop up as you go. As for mileage rings I have no idea.
