We came into Florence today on highway 126 and that's a twisty turny son of a gun and I'm wondering if 36 is any better for going back to I-5 on next friday? Awesome weather here so far.
Don't take Hy 36. It is doable but you won't like it. Rough and narrow. If you thought 126 was bad you won't like 36. The part between Chesire and Swisshome is worse than a Forest Servive road. Low hanging trees will have you on the centerline.it will take a lot longer than 126. The only difference between 36 and Galice to Gold Beach route is that it is flatter.
If you are going north on I-5 send me a PM and I will give you a good route to take north bypassing the West Eugene traffic.
I only wish it had been paved. We did this in the late 70s in my '70 Toyota Land cruiser wagon and some of that road was barely road. Ooppss. Have also hiked down river to Gold Beach. Mebbee do a river raft next year in late summer when the river is a bit warmer.
You mean this bit of twisty pavement? (climb up to Bear Camp Rd from Galice). These days my main concern would be the high speed river rafter shuttle traffic.
I thought that I had been on all of the roads going across from the beach to the 5, but I guess not. In saying all, I did drive from Gold Beach to Grants Pass once to go see the Caves, as we didn't want to drop down to Crescent City and across 199. Oh some of the things we did when we were young.
Most any hwy between I5 and the Oregon coast is twisty turny........ The best one is 38 from Reedsport over to I5. From Florence to Reedsport isn't too bad. But if you're set on the two choices, 126 is the better one.
On edit: hubby pointed out that 36 is a narrower road....not a main highway.....we wouldn't even consider it.
