The Astoria route is certainly a good one. Alternatively, you could return south on 101 to Hwy 18 (by Lincoln City). Take that to McMinnville and visit the Evergreen Aviation Museum (home of the Spruce Goose and lots of other stuff). We were allowed to stay overnight in their parking lot, but there's also a nice RV park right next door. Then continue on 18 which merges into 99W. At the town of Sherwood, take Tualatin-Sherwood Rd over to I-5. Go south on I-5 for just one exit and take 205 around Portland up to I-84.
