We are aiming to get to Waldport, OR. It is where our granddaughter is living.

Follow my suggestion for an easy transit to the coast.
As an alternative, at Salem turn south on I5 to exit 228 where you join 34 or better yet for a more scenic drive continue west of Salem to OR99W. But personally I would do my original suggestion. There are some nice state parks on the coast.

Sorry, someplace west of Bend US20 goes north and OR34 continues west, it is OR34 that I am concerned about. I am not familiar with the area enough to get specific.
