Hours per day is a personal decision based on your abilities and desires. Sightseeing on the way back is also a personal decision. Something that interests me might be totally boring to you. Maybe if you posted your interests folks might be able to point you to relevant sights.

How much time do you have for the return trip? That will determine what we can offer for sights on the return trip. I would recommend I-10 to Blythe, CA then 95 to Las Vegas.

Going we would want to get there ASAP, coming back will want to take in some sites

Are you trying to get there ASAP? Are you looking for shorted route or do you have some time to take in some sights?
