Overnights on 40/D

Crossing the border at Columbia this month...been a lot of years since we have taken 40/D over to the coast. Any suggestions for easy overnights along the way...
Monterrey, Saltillo, Torreon area or Durango. Thanks

Mr: Bradleyleanne your trailer will go under the swinging barrier in Saltillo if you hug the left side going in and the right side going out, my wife did the honors of lifting the barrier by pushing on the weight, normally there is a guard there, if you do go the entrance to the RV parking is at a 90 right turn so swing wide left into the big square parking lot up a little hill.

We have been in several years ago with a 32'DP, with a vertical clearance of 3.66 meters or 12'0" To the tips of a couple of antenna whips is 13'1".

We had heard that they were closing so haven't bothered recently. We dry camped at Hotel La Fuente

This year we bypassed Saltillo for Matehuala's Las Palmas Midway Inn.

  • It helps a lot if those that seek information about places to overnight give a little information on what type of RV they have, B, C, A, 5th or a pull trailer this helps those that have been in the actual spots to better gauge if the information is useful to that person or a total waste.

Having that info we can give heads up on archways or other entrances, example Las Palmas Midway Inn in Matehuala has an entrance where the big rigs have access, some A's and C's fit under the roofed entryway the big ones need the side entrance or the Hotel Balneario San Ramon in San Miguel de Allende, going in there is a 90 degree left turn that a big rig or trailers need to do really wide in order to avoid the tree, nice place with water, electric and sewer.

  • X2 for Leon Guzman Toll plaza. You can stay on the Cuota if you wish. Just west of the toll booth keep to the right. You can park beside the Military building in the convenience store lot. We have stayed there three times so far. It is a ten hour day from Nuevo Laredo in our Class A.
Remember to fuel up near Saltillo as there are few Pemex between Saltillo and Torreon.
  • Leon Guzman, Durango which is 30 kms east of Torreon/Gomez Palacios. A strip mall right off of the toll booth.

Also, Tecuan State Park in Durango. It's only 50 pesos per night, no services but they do rent cabins. We've stayed there twice. It's on the libre.
  • Saltillo's Hotel Imperial del Norte has an RV parking with water electric and sewer, the only problem is the height at the entrance, they have a swinging barrier, we made it OK with the C.
Big A's and 5th's units will not fit pull trailers should be OK that is were we stay after crossing and going back to Reynosa, we cross at the Anzalduas bridge.
