PA Turnpike Tolls

I drove on the PA Turnpike this summer, about 75 miles around Pittsburgh, with a high top Chev. class B RV. They had my weights and heights, I was impressed with the technology, but for about 1 1/2 hour drive it cost me $22.00! I was not impressed with the charges. I questioned the toll taker, who was very nice and professional, but she explained it was by the weight and height and provided me with a print out of the different classes and charges. Next time I am not sure I will spend the money.

We came across OH on I70 back in July and picked up the PA Turnpike at New Stanton. Stopped at Harrisburg for the night and paid $29.15 at the toll booth. We have 2 axles and weigh about 13,000 lbs.

Back when I was driving the big trucks it was by the weight.... ( class) we used to run heavy and when pulling our rigs onto the scale ( each lane has one) we would skuff our tires on the curb , that would lower our weight just enough to get back down to class 7.... From 8... 8 is 80,001# to 100,000# and 7 stopped right at 80,000#

It will be expensive to run from Ohio to Harrisburg... That's about 250 miles... When pulling my trailer , i forgot our ez pass and had to pay cash on a trio from NE Philly to Hershey.... That 60-70 mile trip on the pike was almost $20.00

That's for class 4 ( 19,000. -30,000) and 4 axles ... From Ohio to Harrisburg East

Interstate 80 to US 322 in the State College, PA area is a good choice. It's not as convenient as the Pike, but definitely cheaper.

PA pike is a big chunk of change to use, go the other route ,good roads all the way.

We priced our rig for that run and came up with around $90 for a MH & Toad. Came across PA instead on I-80 to US 322 to H-Burg. A few 2-lane roads north of State College, but good freeway all the rest.

Thanks for the answers. They help. This is probably the only time we will travel the turnpike, so the EZ Pass is not very practical. Bringing the cash is not a problem, I only wanted to know if CC was an option. Thanks again.

If you want convenience get an E-Z pass

You pay your toll in 5-10 seconds. No time to use a credit card and you sure don't want everyone in front of you trying to use one!

If you don't bring cash, they will give you a bill (Certificated of Passage) and you have to go online to pay it - but it is more expensive to pay it this way than if you bring cash.

I don't believe they accept credit cards. Your best bet is to google the pa turnpike and look at the toll schedule. The web site tells you what they charge by axle. We travelled it this spring with our trailer and the tolls weren't obscene, at least as far as tolls go.
