Patchwork Parkway Utah

We plan to be in Southern Utah in early November and wonder if we could safely drive the Patchwork Parkway that connects Highway 89 and Scenic Byway 12 with a 40 foot 5th wheel. Is the road big rig friendly and should I be concerned about snow given the elevation of the road? Thanks for the advice. Michael
  • It is Highway 143 and according to some sources is one of the most scenic highways in America. Since it is not big rig friendly we won't take that route, we were considering 14 which I didn't think look to bad travelling West to East so we might have to have another look at it. According to the Mountain guide that I have there are only a couple of stretches that are 6-8% grade one of 3.5 miles the other of 4 miles. We have an exhaust brake so I thought that it might be Ok, I would like to here what others think.
  • We've explored Utah thoroughly over the years but never heard the term "Patchwork Parkway". I'd love to know the highway number for that one. :)

Hwy 12 runs perpendicular to Hwy 89. Where are you coming from and where are you going?

If you're coming down I-15 you could exit on Hwy 20 to 89. It's a good highway for RVs.

I definitely would not advise Hwy 14 from I-15 to 89. It's very steep and curvy.
  • Travel by RV's or semi trucks not recommended by the Cedar City/Brian Head Tourism Bureau: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utah_State_Route_143
