Information about just about anything can easily be found on the internet these days...........
We see a great many US branded products in our travels worldwide. Because they are a US brand does not mean they are manufactured in the US. Most of today’s major corporations are multinational and they operate all over the world marketing their products and services. They also have manufacturing plants all over the world – not just the US and/or Mexico. Among the major reasons US companies locate outside the US has to do with trade agreements or the lack thereof. The US may or may not have trade agreements with other countries around the world. The build for a global economy and must sell in a global economy. Trade agreements can make a company competitive while the lack of trade agreements price them out of the market due to high tariffs. When the US taxes goods from another country that country will tax US goods in turn. That tax can increase the price the product must be sold for which can make that product unaffordable. Mexico has trade agreements with many countries around the world where US made products can have a high tariff. To remain competitive many companies have manufacturing plants all over the world.

Caterpillar Starts Work on $500 Million Plant in Mexico (Undated article)
MONTERREY, Mexico – U.S. heavy equipment maker Caterpillar Inc. began construction Thursday on a $500 million factory in the northern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon.
The investment will generate 1,000 direct jobs, Caterpillar Mexico chief Ron Riekena said during the ceremonial laying of the cornerstone for what will be the company’s largest plant in Latin America.
Construction should be completed in late 2014, the executive said, attributing Caterpillar’s choice of the Nuevo Leon site to the state’s good infrastructure and transport links and its skilled workforce.

Caterpillar said it will move two production lines from its Joliet plant to Mexico in a plan that will result in the loss of 230 jobs at the Illinois site.
Under the plan, the Peoria-based company will move production of gear and engine oil pumps and valves to a sister plant in Monterrey, Mexico.
The transition is expected to begin in late 2016 and be completed by the middle of 2018
