Peso Tanking?

We skipped our annual trip south of the border this year, planning on 2015. I have been reading the peso is dropping in value. Today it is around 15 to 1 U.S.
Causes for the drop are said to be the civil unrest and drop in oil prices.
How is it going to effect the economy?
I usually return home with 5 to 10 thousand pesos every trip, guess it won't be worth what I paid for it.
Hope the issues resolve themselves, don't think the low income Mexicans can handle less buying power.
  • I understand fully........the more peso the less value.

    BUT wouldn't call it 'TANKING'

US dollar is also worth less.

And because of the constant devaluation, upon leaving a country I would exchange monies vs holding them for next trip/next year.
  • old biscuit, I don't think you understand. In 2013 one U S dollar bought 13.04 pesos. Today one dollar buys 14.33 pesos. The peso is worth less against the dollar today as it was a year ago.
I, too, always buy pesos when leaving for the summer. Makes it easier to buy gas, etc. when we return without having to find an atm.
  • :H

Mexico Peso has been on a steady (slow) increase.

    Dec. 2013.......13.04
    Today Dec. 13, 2014......14.33

Why would you leave $350-$700 in pesos?
  • Interesting, as it was 13:1 last Saturday when we went over and today it was 15:1. I wondered why it was dropping and this enlightened me a little.
