This happened to us at the border (Nuevo Laredo) yesterday. We were finally given a waiver after showing that the truck had been imported before ( 3 times). They did use the fully loaded weight ( though we were not towing nor bringing in any cargo) to determine this. The guy behind us in line gave the aduana $20 and got his waiver, just FYI. There was a family there - five kids, grandma, mom and dad - who were being put through the wringer over the weight of their SUV. This is idiotic - does Mexico intend to hurt tourism from the USA and Canada? The agents were rude and unhelpful - never experienced this in NL before.
Out of curiosity, where did this quote come from and what is the date of the post. Looks like it came from another forum but it would be nice to know the source.
