Just another case to show the problem isn't going to go away.

Problems! I have been living in Guatemala for the last 12 years and decided to build a camper/RV in a 91 Ford E350 Van and return to the US with all of our stuff. All complete, we set off for Mexico's south western border with Guatemala and bam Stopped in Mexico. After much talking and internet searching we find a site to ask the question why? What we get is that the Gross Weight of our Vechule is 10,000 plus lbs and the maxium weight allowable in Mexico is 7,900 lbs for a conversion "in to" a camper. So in other words our van is fine for the roads of Mexico and designed to carry 3,500 lbs more with no problem but because we live in it, it is too heavy to go on roads in Mexico. Needless to say that this is nonsence but the question is how to get around it.
We tryed the next border crossing going East but they where told to not let us through by the first. I have talked to others just in the last few days that have heard the same story and others that have RV's or Campers that weigh more than ours. But no converts.
So, does anyone have any advice? Or simular experiences?
