Vehicle permits (TIPS) being denied to all non-Motorhome vehicles > one-half ton at N. Laredo, Reynosa, Matamoros & probably other crossings.
However, this just in - friends of mine crossed in ¾-ton pickup & camper at Nogales, Sonora.
The vehicle permit situation is fluid. In 2016, officials began denying temporary importation permits (TIPS) to vehicles with a GVWR greater than 7,700 lbs. Then, they changed back to the old rules (where only a payload > 7,700 lbs disqualified you from getting a TIP from Feb. 2017 to September, 2017. Then, in September, SAT or Banjercito started denying TIPS to vehicles with a GVWR > 7,700 pounds.
For 2017, these are the Banjercito regulations for fees for car, RV or motorcycle permits (TIPS) to drive in Mexico except for parts of Sonora. See below for Sonora. For most of Mexico these are the rule.
