Pigeon Forge/Gatlinberg

We are heading from Michigan to St. Augustine for the winter the 1st of December. We would like to stop in the Pigeon Forge/Dollywood area for a few nights. Does anyone know what this area has to offer adults during the holidays. Not interested necessarily in theme parks, but would like to attend holiday shows/dinner theater type of entertaining. Any suggestions?

No one ever goes to the Smokies any more...........its just too crowded.

It should read " everyone goes to the Smokies, that is why it is so crowded". #1 most visited National Park. Crowds or not, we have our reservations for May already.

    You obviously missed my humor........

If you're going to be there for several days, by all means, visit the mountains. Drive up to Newfound Gap and Clingmans Dome. Drive thru Wear Valley and have dinner at The Timbers Restaurant in Townsend. Drive the Little River Road over to Cades Cove. Its all about the mountains........

Townsend (as well as Cades Cove) is one of my favorite places.

  • Do a Google search for either location eg. `Gatlinburg activities in December' and read on.
  • River Plantation RV Park in Sevierville is also nice. Lots of shows, comedy, musical. We stayed at Riverside RV Park and it was also nice and a bit cheaper than other parks in the area. They have church service in the park on Sundays. They also strictly enforce the park rules.
There is a Muscle Car Museum in Sevierville if you're interested in that. Gatlinburg is beautiful at Christmas.
There are lots of restaurants and shopping in the area.
  • Dixie Stampede has a great Christmas show. Pricey, but includes dinner. There are lots of shows inside Dollywood that are season specific and the lights in Dollywood, but also Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are wonderful.

If you haven't made reservations, Pine Mountain is wonderful. It has an indoor pool and hot tub adjacent to the park. It is wonderful after a long day/evening seeing the sites. They have individual shower rooms that are always clean and warm. It's our pick and we have stayed in most of the leading campgrounds in the area.
  • There are probably 30 different theaters in Pigeon Forge. Several our dinner theaters. Click on the link below to our blog and you can find much information on the area. We had worked at Dollywood and attended many of the shows.
