How much time/ Figure your driving time, then add a couple weekends.
Route will be the biggest issue. I would suggest seeing Glacier/Waterton park as a point and go north through Banff , Icefield Highway to Jasper. Continue north join CAN 97 at Prinve Rupert, then North to Alaska on the Alaska Highway.
Return south and take the Cassiar Highway CAN 37. Then East on CAN 16.
Once you get to Prince Rupert, Again your route home would be any way you want. Last year, we went east in Canada all the way to the Atlantic.
There is a lot to see in Canada.
Some say fuel is high. I am not that sure as our fuel prices seem about the same when you do conversions.
Make sure you have a good bank for your plastic. We use a bank that has associated ones in Canada. The cost of fees are greatly reduced. Our cards give good kick backs on fuel.
Definitely get the Milepost. We also used "The World-Famous Alaska Highway" by Tricia Brown on our last trip. ISBN 1-55591-446-2
Trip of a life time for many. We have done it numerous time. Do planning but do not plan on following it strictly. there is just too much to see in, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon and Alaska.
The Canadians are very friendly! They take care of the facilities and keep them clean.
