We went to Alaska in 2011. The trip up and back was as intesting as the time in Alaska. We drove up the Cassiar highway and back the Alcan. The Cassiar may be out of the way for you. Saw lots of wildlife both going and comming. Drove slow, about 55 most of the way. There were many places with road construction because of heaves. I nearly stopped when I met on comming traffic in these zones because of flying rocks. Flying rocks break windshields because of in your speed, not the speed of oncoming traffic. Watch the white line along the right side of the lane because you can see the heaves much easier. Slow down when you see this or you are in for some big whoop de doos. I had both the Milepost and Churches book. Used Churches book mostly. Would not get the Milepost again. Didn't stay in any campgrounds going or returning. Lots of pullout to overnight and in Alaska too. Most towns had a dump station and water and Churches book list them. Picked up a nail in Alaska and another in Canada on return trip. Suggest tire pressure monitor on RV. I drove 11750 miles and was gone 7 weeks. You might want to get reservations in Danali. I didn't but got there early in the day. If you don't have a generator I suggest you get one. You will not need the air conditioner so a small quite one is enough. This was the vacation of a life time. If you can do it I highly recommend it.
