People in the US border areas definitely tend to be the most fearful and vocal about going into Mexico. I would guess it's because the border areas have the worst or at least the most publicized crime. It does get a lot of coverage, plus it's like a DMZ on our US side, what with all the illegals coming over, cameras, patrols, checkpoints, arrests/detentions, etc. At some point it must feel like living in a war zone. I know we sure feel that way when we travel down there. Again, I'm talking about the US side. So I can see how people living there would feel that way about Mexico.
