you will have a target on the side of your RV for anybody up to and including the so called police/army. That's another thing, police and EMS in the northern states is uhhhh, shall we say few and far between
G'day Nick.
To be quite frank, asking an American forum for advice about going to Mexico isn't a good idea. Obviously there are a core of experienced Rvers from the US who will give you plenty of assurances about travelling to Mexico and their opinions are to be trusted, but the big problem is they are drowned out by the large majority who are so afraid that they won't go within a million miles of Mexico. If anyone doubts this, then show me where all the American RVers who used to spend their winters in Mexico have gone to. Perhaps Quartzite is as far as they get. Actually I think the continuing fallout from the US Economic Crisis is the real reason why the numbers are down and $4 a gallon for fuel is obviously hurting and the fear of Mexico is just a convenient excuse.
Ask the Canadians. Seems to me they are still down there roaming around the back roads in the interior rather than holed up for months in tourist parks so I would suggest their outlook is likely to be more similar to ours.
Make the distinction between the casualties of the drug trade and the thousands of illegals from south of Mexico who end up as casualties - and they don't target us Motorhomers anyway, and those impacted by normal everyday crime that is all over the world and especially concentrated around tourist traps frequented by rich tourists - AND normal Mexico where everyone is friendly and the police are helpful. Just need to do a bit of research so you can figure out which is which.
No bullet holes and no police problems in three months of 50% bush camping (boondocking) from Lukeville down to Paleque (Sp??) and back up along the east coast and across the centre (bypassing Mazlantan)
