Yea, I know someone will chime in they are at so and so RV park and there are no spaces-but total visitors to Mexico both RVers and people who stay in resorts are WAY DOWN!
The problem with security in Mexico is that the Police don't care, and quite frankly they are not paid enough to care. For what they make they need to look "the other way" so they can still feed their families on what little they do make.
Are you reading the news right to left?
The Mexico Tourism Board estimates that 52 million domestic and international tourists will visit the southeastern part of the country in 2012, thanks to growing numbers of visitors from emerging markets and aggressive public relations campaigns to counter the perception that Mexico is unsafe.
And as for police that don't care, don't lump everyone together. In my great state of Nuevo Leon we have a good police force, Fuerza Civil, military trained, well-paid (four times the natioal average). Well-respected and honest. only do they receive a great salary, but excellent benefits.
What does the media feed you guys in the northern continent and where do you get your info? You know very little of Mexico. Very very little.
The term "Emerging markets" is the key phrase here. If your police in your state are paid 4 times the national average-I think that pretty much says how low the rest are paid. Mexico may very well be safe compare to the "emerging markets" some of the visiotrs are coming from. As far as where we get the info-The Dept. of state website.
As follows-
The U.S. State Department issued a travel warning to Americans to avoid all but essential travel to all or parts of 14 of 31 Mexican states. No advisory is in effect for Yucatan, Quintana Roo or Campeche, states that make up the Yucatan Peninsula, or for that matter, Mexico City, the nation's capital.
It looks like half of your country is "unsafe", at least deemed so by the U.S. government.
