When I run Google maps I enter Canada at Portal then up 35 to 11 to Saskatoon then up 16 through Edmonton then up 43 to hwy 2 or Tupper Hwy to Dawson Creek, then up 97 to hwy 1 into Alaska which changes to hwy 2. Lots of driving through Canada but seems to be the straightest route. Anyone run this route lately??
Lots of wide open flat fields south and east of Edmonton, and unless you stay on the few major hiways the speed limits are lower than in the US. If it were me I'd stay south of the border heading west and cross at Sweet Grass, MT. Still have lots of flat fields but you're pretty much headed north at that point. The most scenic route would be to go West to Washington State, cross into BC up thru the mountains. The only problem is you end up crossing over the Continental Divide twice, once in the US and once in Canada. Not tough, but pulling a big 5th wheel it may not be what you'd like doing.
