This is an usually dry and warm winter. It was 81 degrees in Monterey today. With global climate change there is no such thing as normal when it comes to weather.
California has the best collection of state parks throughout the state and along the coast and up into the redwood country. There are towns that you should not miss which include Mendocino and Ferndale and Highway 1 north along the ocean from Pt Reyes is as beautiful a place as I have found in the state and for that matter in the world.
Distances are very short and so you will need to adjust your trip plans accordingly. From Pt. Reyes to Mendocino it is only 129 miles and even taking your time and making lots of stops it can easily be covered in a day or you have many state parks along the ocean where you can stay and many have hookups at some of the campsites.
The best resource I know of is the book on California Camping by Tom Steinstra. It is the best of its kind and very good for planning trips in the state.
