Pondering Interstate Highways
I thought I basically had the interstate numbering system figured out, but I wasn't aware that you could have 2 highways with the same number in different parts of the country. An example, I-84 star...

I like this kind of obscure-but-interesting stuff too, Bukhrn... and in this case I vaguely remember all the hoo-haw that went on around this name change.
I grew up in Portland, and as I remember it was all tied up with the "freeway wars" involving planned expansion of the system there. I think there's even at least one "ramp to nowhere" down there still- not on 84 but very near its confluence with I-5. Just a ramp with a chainlink fence at the end of it from which one can gaze wistfully at Northeast Portland...
