I was born in Portland in 1946 .
We lived on Fremont and 115th .
That is immediately adjacent of the Banfield I-84 .
Until 1956 or so there was no freeway .
There were wild berries and train tracks .
Us kids would play where the freeway is now .
I can remember that in 1964 we took the Banfield out past 122nd avenue eastbound and traffic was so light at night that we could actually slow down to a crawl to drag race ( slow rolling start )on the Banfield toward 162nd .
Four on the floor and 97 on the dash . Vibrasonic radio and Chevron Atlas Bucron tires, baby ...
Now I-84 is wild and crazy 6 lanes 24/7 .
We got the heck out of Portland in 1977 for a better life in Bend .
I still call the Banfield Interstate 80 .
It has been Interstate 84 for 34 years now .
