Portland to Olympic NP (stop by Mt Rainier along the route)

Leaving from Portland tomorrow to travel to Port Angeles, WA. Would like to stop at Mt. Ranier NP along the way. Google taking me: I-5 to 12east - to 7north (through Ranier and up to Tacoma) - 1...

We are going to see Mt St. Helens but not stop and do much - visitor center will not be open as we are leaving early.

Doing Rainier as a side trip is 2hrs each way, which we would likely miss if thats the best option.
