In general I would like to agree with the route suggested by TyroneandGladys above. Yes, it is about 200 miles longer (add a day) but in my opinion it would be worth it UNLESS there is an interest ONLY in the destination.
The only additional suggestion I would make is to take US 82 from Paris, TX across to US 287 near Wichita Falls, to avoid Dallas, and its overflow north into the surburbs, entirely.
This is the route we take to Colorado now that routes closer in to Dallas have become so congested. It makes for a pleasant drive across north Texas.
Another variation would be to follow US 64/87 to Raton, NM and pick up I-25 to go on up into Colorado.
This is not to say one is better than the other: Santa Fe remains one of our favorite RV stops in the US, but sometimes we choose to go straight up to Colorado. Lots of good choices
