You can get away with registering the entire unit as an RV if you do it on line. Chances are if you do it at the border they will consider it a truck carrying cargo. Right now I am carrying a 35 year old truck camper that belongs to my sister in law. The whole thing is registered as an RV and I have a 10 year permit under the truck VIN. I did it online. I took off the jacks to be safe. I did not want any headaches with a Truck Camper not registered to me with the owner not present. I will cancel it when I cross back in December and I will be then towing my trailer in come Jan. If I have issues I will simply say I converted the RV back into a regular pickup. To complicate matters more, in Jan I have to bring everything in under my wife's name as I have to fly to phoenix in Late Feb and back again, and you cannot leave a vehicle under a 180 day permit behind when you leave the country, even temporary.

Sorry, I meant FMM, not MMT. Switching back and forth from one language to another sometimes gets me confused.

Not everyone can take a day or whatever to go to the border to get our FMM so we have to stop anyway.

I don't mean to be dense, but what's an MMT?
We live relatively close to the Mexican border, so a week or two before we plan to cross, we make a day trip to Tijuana, and get our FMM's. Our moho has a 10 year permit, that we got on line, so we don't have to stop anywhere for anything!

Get er done on line! Wish the Immigration form could be as easy!

When you get your TIP on line, you don't have to stop for anything, pay anything, show anything. It's all handled on line. That's the beauty of it. It just eliminates one more step after you cross the border.

We stay somewhere north of Nogales the night before and then get up early to beat the rush and never have much of a wait of long lines to stand in - the early bird gets the worm.

We have never done the TIP online - just personal preference - never sure if we will have health or mechanical issues that mean canceling our trip so we just go one day at a time. As far as we know we still have to stop to do paperwork and pay fees - though we have heard you can pay the fees elsewhere we have never done it so do not know how.
