Proposed route from Creston BC to Prince George BC

Would like some comments on the following route from Creston BC to Prince George BC. We will be crossing border from Idaho

Creston via Hwy 3 to jct Hwy 96 to Salmo
Salmo to Nelson
Nelson to Nakusp
Nakusp to Galena Bay
Galena Bay to Revelstoke
Revelstoke to Kamloops via Salmon Arm3
Kamloops to Cache Creek
Cache Creek to Price George via Hwy 97

I see there are 3 ferry crossings. Any problem with rig in my sig?

  • I put your start/finish into my browser maps and came up with Creston, Cranbrook, Invermere, Radium Hot Springs, Lake Louise, Icefields Parkway to Jasper, Yellowhead to Prince George.

Beautiful route with terrific towns/campgrounds the whole way. Would definitely be my first choice.

I've been the other way as well, the Creston-Salmo pass is steep and slow, pretty scenic from Nelson to Revelstoke, but won't make great time. Also about 200km longer than the route I proposed, if that matters. Both will be fun and beautiful, can be dicey in the winter months.

I'd be happy to provide campground recs if needed.
  • That is a very scenic route but take your time, it ain't your average interstate. We traveled the southern portion last summer and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. You won't have problems on the ferries but you will be required to shut the propane off.
An alternative would be north to Golden then west through the Rogers Pass
. At Kamloops you can go north to Tete Jaune but the leg from McBride to PG doesn't offer much scenery wise.
Edit: The roads are all paved and in good condition.
  • Looks like a real pretty route to me. We are coming from the east & doing the Kamloops to Prince George on 97 portion. If it is paved we are good.
  • Are you looking for opinions on that route only, or just is that a good route to take?

When are you planning to go.. there is some awesome scenery along different highways, but certainly the way you have it planned is a fun trip too, off the beaten path a little, but why not?
