Pulling TT thru Arches NP in UT

I'm mapping out a Colorado trip, and have one leg of the journey that I would like input on. As we leave Mesa Verda, CO, I'm thinking on driving up through Arches National Park in UT on my way to Rifle Gap S.P. Yes, I know its kinda out of the way, but wanted input on this:

Can we pull our 30 foot TT through the scenic roads in Arches, to see the Balanced Rock, driving through the loops. Not talking off-roading here, just the scenic main drives. From Google maps it looks to be just fine but wondered if anyone has done it.

My other option is to drive north on Rt. 550 thru CO. if Arches is not doable.

Thanks.

  • I would drop that trailer at one of these sites and drive your TV through Arches.

  • Shouldn't be a major problem. Except if crowded, you may have trouble finding places to park. But if you just want to drive through, it's beautiful even from the park roads.
  • Can you work in a couple nights and either stay in the park or at the many in the Moab area? If you're going out of your way to just drive the short distance through Arches then I'd say forget it until you can come back for a longer stay. The road is short and dead ends so you'll return the same way. Pulling off at the pull-offs would be iffy with a trailer. They don't have a lot of room and the few trailhead parking lots are very crowded.

Regarding your second question...with your 27' trailer Hwy 550 is a beautiful mountain drive. If you're comfortable in mountains then definitely yes, it's very doable. We do it with our 40' motorhome pulling our Jeep. However, you will most likely get a lot of warnings against doing it, and they will be mainly from folks who haven't pulled a RV on it or who are afraid of mountain driving. It all depends on your comfort level. Many RVers drive it. Plan to stay a couple nights in Silverton along the way - a fascinating little mining town.
  • Ditto on that, most of the arches required a hike to get close to them.
  • Personal opinion would be no. Most of the most beautiful things in Arches require at least a little hike town a trail. Most times we have gone we have spent days in that park, and never have had enough time to see everything.

Save it for when you can at least spend 1 day there..

    IMHO
  • Yeah but why do it? The road system just loops around inside the park IIRC, it does not pass thru the park.
