Questions about New Mexico 152, 180, 90 and 26

Starting to plot a couple of different routes either to or from AZ. One option is to stop over in Silver City. MapQuest takes us in on NM 152 from Caballo to Silver City and out of Silver City on NM 90 to Lordsburg. Anything I need to know about these roads?

Another option either going or coming is to skip Silver City. MapQuest gets us off I25 at Hatch on NM26 and brings us in at Deming. Anything we should know about this road.

  • According to Federal Highway Admin rules the clearance measurement should be at the lowest point on the bridge portal. In the photo that would be where the angled brace from the top chord joins the side truss.

If you stay dead center, you gain about two and a half more feet. This is the same as the tunnels on the Skyline Parkway. Posted at 11'-6" but actually 14'-2" at the center of the road.

That said; remember that the measurements may well have been taken by a Summer Intern working for minimum wage and not really interested in accuracy.

The warning sign where you exit I-25 onto 152 says 12'6", at the bridge itself its labeled 12'8"
    Semi's don't use 152

Thanks for the info. That is too close for comfort. I'm right at 12' 6".

NM 152 is a narrow winding road through the high country with a couple of low clearance RR bridges.
Most folks going that direction use the 26 from Hatch over toward Deming/Silver City & I-10. The 26 is a very good road, 65 MPH on most of it.

Thanks for the information. When you say low clearance, how low is that? If a semi can do it, I certainly can.
