Raton to Midland
looking for a good route from Raton, NM to Midland,TX, without going out of the way on I-25. Is there a shorter way that you would suggest?

While we didn't stay in Raton, but we took 64/87/385 down to Midland. There's a nice campground in Vega, about half way just as you approach I-40. Good for an overnight especially if you want to tour Amarillo which is about a half hour away. All good roads. There's two things to see if you have the time. One is the Capulin Volcano site. It's a National Monument and pretty cool and if you want to go a bit out of your way, stop by Lake Meredith Recreation Area in Texas. Lots of places to stay around the lake. Water only, but camping is Free! Nice lake and should be full now....Dennis
