Raton to Midland
looking for a good route from Raton, NM to Midland,TX, without going out of the way on I-25. Is there a shorter way that you would suggest?

We took this route from Raton Pass to Vega, TX 7 months ago pulling a TT. There are a few active towns that are not bad and several abandoned towns. The road isn't interstate but they are straight and mostly thru wide-open country with very little traffic. If you will need fuel on this route, plan ahead - some of the towns on the map used to be there but no more.
